One of the oldest known gemstones is Turquoise. It is the traditional birthstone for December, representing success, good fortune and happiness. It varies in colour from sea/green to sky blue and can be opaque or translucent. The Turquoise stone is believed to have healing properties and the ability to heighten creativity. This gem is plentiful and versatile in its uses and the sky blue colour was very popular in Victorian jewellery; It historically represents the life cycle from birth to death in Christian symbolism because it changes colour as it ages.
