To keep your handmade, precious Charlotte's Web goods in their very best condition possible, follow these simple guidelines to help you keep our collections shine as brightly as they can!
Jewellery requires a little care and attention to keep it looking its best. Many factors can influence the wear and tear of jewellery. Therefore you should make always try to ensure that your jewellery is properly cleaned, repaired and stored. As with all of the finer things in life, protect your jewellery from sharp blows, scratching, chemicals, sunlight and direct heat/cold. Ideally, store your jewellery in a soft lined box or pouch and try to keep separate pieces apart. Always remove your jewellery when applying scent, lotions and potions, or even better, always make your jewellery the last thing to put on when getting dressed. Perhaps most importantly, try to always avoid wearing your jewellery whilst cleaning, washing or swimming as this can accelerate the tarnishing.
Sterling Silver is an alloy of silver and other metals, usually copper. Pure silver is too soft for everyday wear; therefore, copper is generally used to give it strength while at the same time preserving the ductility of the metal and its beauty.
As with most precious metals, sterling silver can tarnish over time, although, this is less likely to happen as quickly if regularly worn, and properly cared for.
Clean your silver jewellery in warm soapy water, ensuring that it is rinsed thoroughly and dried before storing. Alternatively polish your silver jewellery with a soft cloth. We have polishing cloths available to purchase here.
Dust, pollution and daily wear all conspire to cloud the brilliance of a gemstone and dull the surface of precious metals. As both creators and lovers of fine jewellery ourselves, we always advise to take great care to protect your jewellery and store it in a fabric lined jewellery box, taking care not to drop, bash or scratch.
Avoid salt water and harsh chemicals such as chlorine, bleach or other detergents as they can cause lasting damage. The chemicals may erode the finish and polish of the gems leaving them dull. Hairspray, perfume and perspiration can also cause dullness if not regularly cleaned off your jewellery. Storage in a soft pouch is recommended.
All of our vibrant, precious gemstones can be kept sparkling using a simple mixture of washing up liquid, warm water and either a sponge or an old toothbrush. For gemstone rings, use an old toothbrush and warm soapy water to gently clean the gemstone, including behind the stone.
All our plated jewellery is created when a layer of gold is used to coat the original surface of sterling silver. As it’s not 100% gold, extra care is needed to maximise its lifespan.
To keep your plated jewellery shiny, clean after every wear with a very soft cloth or a cotton wool ball to remove any dirt. Gently rubbing the surface will help to restore its shine. Do NOT use a ‘polishing’ cloth as this will strip away the plating. If it needs a deeper clean, then you can clean it with warm, soapy water. Soak for a few minutes and dry with a soft cloth. Stay clear of antibacterial soaps and jewellery cleaners as these may enhance the tarnishing.
As with all our jewellery keep different metals separate, so don’t store gold with rose gold or silver, as this can again accelerate tarnishing.
Brass is made from a combination of zinc and copper, and may tarnish easily when exposed to the air. To keep your brass jewellery pieces looking as new and super shiny, simply follow these tips:
- Ketchup or Worcester Sauce: Squirt some ketchup or Worcester sauce on a clean cloth and rub over tarnished brass. Then simply wipe clean with a damp cloth and buff dry.
- Soap or mild detergent: If your brass item is dirty rather than tarnished, submerging it in warm soapy water and cleaning with a soft cloth could do the trick. Use a toothbrush to gently scrub extra dirty areas.
- Lemon Juice: Straight lemon juice can be used to clean brass and bring back the brilliant shine. After cleaning with lemon juice, wipe with a damp cloth and buff dry.
(You can buy specialised brass cleaners but we recommend these more eco friendly cleaning methods)
Please note: All Charlotte's Web earrings have sterling silver backs/posts therefore contain no nickel and are allergy free.

We aim to bring you distinctive and, vibrant, colours & prints which infuse Charlotte's Web clothing collections with their unique & individual style.
Most of our clothes are made from printed Indian cottons or 100% pure silk recycled saris, we also feature some items made from rayons and Moss Crepe, To keep your clothes in the best possible condition & to avoid colour transfer or fading, we recommend that you wash our clothes separately with a cool hand wash or a cool machine wash using a gentle detergent & leave to dry naturally, unless we have otherwise stated in an item's product detail. It is not recommended to spot clean stains.
Rayons and Moss Crepe items can be washed in a gentle washing machine cycle, separately at a cool temperature - however we still recommend washing by hand as this keeps the colours looking brighter for longer.
Charlotte's Web scarves come in a dazzling array of uplifting colours. To keep them that way, and avoid colour transfer & fading we recommend that you hand wash them separately in cool water, using a gentle detergent & leave to dry naturally.
